How long have you had migraines?
I’ve had migraines since I was 13 and being male in the 60s and 70s, males didn’t get migraines; it was a woman’s thing they told me. It wasn’t until later in life. I went to my daughter’s doctor and told him my symptoms and he was the one that validated that I do indeed have migraines.
When do you usually get migraines?
I also have Ménière’s and that was triggered by caffeine. From taking all the migraine medicines I ended up at the hospital with internal bleeding so after that I stopped that and all caffeine. I was also on a no alcohol diet for 4 or 5 years. Stopping those things helped to identify the triggers, which were: caffeine, alcohol and too much salt. While reducing or eliminating these didn’t end the migraines, it helped reduced them.
What have you tried pre-CEFALY?
A few years after my hospital stay, I tried every new migraine medicine I could find but none of them really worked. At one point my father had a heart attack and I was taking more of the anti-heart attack medicines than he was for the migraine.
What does your migraine feel like?
In my case it’s an incredible pain in the back of my head, right where the head and the neck join together. It’s almost like being hit back there with a bat but it stays there and also my forehead on the same side. Mine are 99% right-sided. Fortunately since using CEFALY I don’t have to contend with a lot of these things anymore.
How did you hear about CEFALY?
My daughter got a CEFALY a couple years ago. It helped her so I asked my ENT and he gave me a prescription.
What’s your CEFALY experience like?
I use it daily in the morning for prevention. I also use it when I get a migraine on an as needed basis. The CEFALY has worked wonders. The number of my migraines dropped 75-80% and those that I do get are less severe. They can now be treated with a little acetaminophen. I like the CEFALY so much that I bought a spare.
