How long have you had migraines?

Migraine runs in the family. Dad had them. Mine started when I was a child.

When do you usually get migraines?

I have a vast long list of triggers: cheese, peanuts, wine, any alcohol… the triggers have shifted with age and situation; but food triggers my migraines absolutely. Noise is a trigger, allergies, and scent is a huge one for me. Light fortunately is not. When I didn’t know my food triggers, light was an issue, but since I’ve managed to get most of the food triggers under control I haven’t had another issue with light. Weather can also be a trigger.

What have you tried pre-Cefaly?

I jumped through all kinds of hoops – multiple drug treatments, biofeedback, keeping a headache diary, trying to narrow down all of my triggers, neurotoxin injections, many different classes of medications. None of the preventatives to-date have worked, including the new CGRP-inhibitors.

What does your migraine feel like?

When it’s one of the worst ones, I am only semi-conscious. It’s crushing, I guess. It changes it stripes, it is a tiger that changes its stripes. The general day-to-day migraines are sharp and one sided, those feel like an ice pick but when we talk about the worst ones, the ones that send me to the emergency room, those are crushing. That feels like something is standing on my skull. Those are the ones that end with me on the floor. Fortunately those are few and far between.

How did you hear about Cefaly?

Right after it was FDA approved there were articles that came out in newspapers and everyone who knows me forwarded me those articles. I took it to my primary care doctor who wrote me a prescription.

What’s your Cefaly experience like?

You’ll have to pry my Cefaly out of my cold dead hands because once I have a migraine and have my Cefaly on, it drastically reduces the level of my migraine pain. The Cefaly still is one of my go-to options.

What made you want to share your story?

The fact that the device really is extraordinarily useful to me. The fact that I can put the Cefely on in the midst of a pretty bad migraine and still function and be a reasonable human being, mostly. I might look a little weird but that’s pretty magical.
